Winter Weather Advisory
The 2010-2011 winter season has been less predictable and more dramatic than prior years. While it can be quite beautiful in the snow at Harbin, guest services can be impacted. Of course, we cannot predict what weather will happen during your stay, but we want you to be as prepared as possible.
Pack for the season. During the winter months, it’s always a good idea to bring extra warm clothing, sturdy boots, warm blankets, and a flashlight.
Snowfall can close traffic on Highway 29 between Calistoga to Middletown, so check with CHP at their website for road closure information. You might consider taking the “backroads” route through Angwin, which bypasses the Highway 29 mountain pass.
Power outages are not uncommon at Harbin in the winter. Although they typically last just a few hours, they can stretch on for a day or more. The office has a generator, so we are able to keep the computers and phones working. The pools generally remain open, as the hot spring remains hot in the coldest of weather, but the dry and steam saunas will close. For guests in rooms, we provide glowsticks and extra blankets (since the rooms are electrically heated). The Stonefront building is heated by propane fireplaces, creating a cozy and dry gathering place. Our Restaurant usually continues to serve breakfast and dinner, but with fewer items than normal. The Market stays open through the daylight hours. A few massage rooms are equipped with small portable heaters, so treatments will be available.
